Saskia's gap

Saskia's gap
Originally uploaded by lundapagen.
The great day has arrived. Saskia has lost her first tooth! However our attempts to make any magic out of it all were thwarted by her refusal to believe in tooth fairies. A free translation from Saskia's trilingual original:
"You put that gold coin next to the bed, didn't you?"
"How do you know that then?"
"Tooth fairies don't exist. Just like Father Christmas..."
So Saskia is apparently a true sceptic who refuses to believe in what she can't see with her own eyes. She has the makings of a good scientist, ironic in view of the fact that her parents are scientists trying to perpetuate myths!
We were also amazed by her quick thinking on Christmas Day: "But pappa, the presents were wrapped in the same paper as last year. That means it can't have been Father Christmas that brought them. So he doesn't exist, does he?" Serves me right for being such a cheapskate...

Who is the head of Ravenclaw?

This is the kind of question that is frequently asked. Saskia is obsessed with Harry Potter at the moment. It started just before her birthday and is still going strong. we read the books first, then for relief got tapes from the library and at last saw all the films. Her favourite is the Prisoner of Azkaban, mainly because of Buckbeak. Our "computer-room" is Dumbledore's office and Saskia is either Harry or Bucky. I knitted her a "Weasley Jumper" and she is very happy with that. Derek has to play Lord Voldemort, Snape or Draco Malfoy, always the bad guy.... He would prefer to play Hagrid though. If anyone knows who is the head of Ravenclaw, Saskia would like to know!

Vital statistics update

Today we had a double visit to the health centre in Veberöd. Saskia passed her "5-year control" with flying colours, copying circles, squares and drawing matchstick men. Marit was weighed and measured: 3940g and 52cm! Here's the story so far:

birth......2600g...45cm
6 days.....2335g
10 days....2525g
13 days....2660g
17 days....2860g
3.5 weeks..3090g...48.5cm
1 month....3470g
6.5 weeks..3940g...52cm

Pretty impressive... If you plot this on a graph of the weight-for age percentiles Marit starts off 3 standard deviations below the mean but in the space of 6 weeks she has made it up to only 1 sd below. Saskia was a fast grower too but never in this Olympic class!

After a couple of hours of rooting around on the Net I discover how to post photos. Amazing what you can get for nothing nowadays... Here's a photo of Marit on 2nd January, a month old.

Hello world

Today we take our first tentative steps into the world of blogging. We want to have some way to record Marit and Saskia's development and the technology has come on a long way since Saskia was a wee babe. However we're not quite sure what we're going to say at the moment. It's been 20 years since Derek kept a diary!
